Students, Instructors and Clubs who are without an instructor (Ronin), or who wish to add a focus on Practical Effective Self-Defense.

Comprehensive insurance package that covers your dojo and your students.

• Your dojo will be listed on the Goshinkan-Ryu JuJitsu and AJJA website.
• Greater student retention for your dojo through participation in Goshinkan-Ryu JuJitsu events.
• Media coverage of events & individuals, as well as support in getting exposure for your dojo (Punch Magazine & events).
• Open and continuous communication within the Goshinkan-Ryu JuJitsu community.
• Province-wide referral service for member clubs.
• Opportunities to foster the growth and promotion of Jiu Jitsu in Alberta.

Membership Requirements

• The criterion for membership in the Goshinkan-Ryu JuJitsu is as follows:
• Good Jiu Jitsu (Jujutsu) skills and/or self-defense techniques.
• Honorable people with good spirit (no criminals) criminal record check may be required.
• Members that will participate, fundraise, and support AJJA events. Members must also be willing to sit on the Board of Directors or volunteer time.
• Provide contact information for three references, and send us information on your dojo and martial arts style. A club visitation will then be scheduled.
• Final approval of an affiliate school is given in conjunction with a satisfactory review by Master Instructor Sensei K.D. Lintott. This involves an evaluation of documentation provided, in addition to the club visitation.

Addendum

1. Membership is open to the public from all walks of life.
2. Head instructors who will be hosting events or teaching at Goshinkan-Ryu JuJitsu events must send us a copy of their current Black Belt certification.
3. If you currently need a Jiu-Jitsu (Jujutsu) instructor we can help, we also have a Black Belt grading board available for these circumstances. Ask for grading criteria to be mailed to you.
4. Members must submit articles for quarterly newsletter and notify us when you would like to have a student promotion listed.
5. All students of the affiliate school must be Goshinkan-Ryu JuJitsu members in order to have your affiliate school listed on the Goshinkan-Ryu JuJitsu web site and to have a copy of the insurance policy.
6. All member schools are expected to host a technical seminar; they will be assisted by other Goshinkan-Ryu JuJitsu instructors and dojo owners. Technical seminars are currently held quarterly throughout the year.

Camp Of Combat Arts 2009

The plans for this years Camp are in full swing. The dates of the Camp of Combat Arts this year are going to be July 4 & 5th (Saturday and Sunday).

The camp will start on Saturday at 10 a.m. and we be held in the Southland Leisure Centre Main Gym.

The cost of the camp is $75 for both days. $55 for adult members; this year we planing on a kids camp as well held at our Queensland Dojo for juniors age 7 - 11. Date and time forth coming, cost for the kids $20.

A seminar like this for the adults is generally over $200 AJJA is a non-profit group out ot make a change is the Martial Arts Community.

Itinery and Information on Camp 2009

This year we are booking a Private Camp site for attendees and their families only. The site is at the Clearwater Tipi campsite just minutes west of Calgary. You can set up your own tent or trailer or book one of the large Tipi's to stay in. The cost of camping is free for your family however a small donation would be appreciated to cover the cost of the rental. We only ask that you help us clean up the sites prior to us leaving on the last day.

GOSHINKAN JUJITSU MON

To understand our “Mon & Kanji” we must first define the terms: Mon are insignias or crests to depict family name. Kanji are characters that correspond to a word, and by combining these characters more words are created.

Our Mon consists of 5 Kanji characters and a symbol. The top two characters mean “Ju Jitsu”, the lower three “Bushido”. The symbol is the central figure and carries many meanings, the first being the blending of In and Yo.

In-Yo

As some may know, the In-Yo is the Japanese counterpart to Yin-Yang (characters traditionally shown as opposites eternally chasing one another). However, where Yin and Yang are always in harmony, in balance, the Japanese believe that "light" is always greater than "dark" (as indicated by the dark circle being smaller by the light circle). Here, however, In and Yo have merged, representing the coming together of opposing aspects, much as there are opposing aspects within our art which come together to create a technique (for example: compression and extension – opposite principles, yet when combined they create a joint lock; both principles necessary for the end result). Now blended, the traditional black and white combine to become red: the colour of both joy and anger in the East, life and danger in the West.

The symbol also consists of five points of intersection, a visual reference to the meaning of “Go”.

Finally, this symbol can be traced to the teacher of school, Sensei Kevin D. Lintott , as he is the one who created it and defined its multiple meanings. It has become a part of the Lintott history and much as a family crest is the visual representation of one’s roots, this is the visual representation of our school and Chief Instructor and his roots.

Sensei Kevin D. Lintott Chief instructor for: IBK; GMA and AJJA, has been teaching in the Alberta area for over 15 years and practicing Jujitsu for 20 years. Sensei Lintott has lectured and taught hundreds of seminars all over Canada. He has been interviewed on TV and the radio as well as many of the major news papers several times. Being a doorman; bodyguard and self-defense instructor and working in law enforcement has given him more hands on experience than other self-defense instructors in Alberta.
